Unidentified character: Where do you pray?
Tale
After being released from prison, mob capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he builds a new criminal empire with a group of unlikely characters. Sylvester Stallone’s first lead role in a television series. Dwight “The General” Manfredi: I don’t really go to church… The opening credits show various photographic and drawn views and Oklahoma landmarks superimposed on the New York landscape: Sioux Chief Touch the Clouds statue with battle a hat ring and a bone necklace (breastplate) installed on top of Brooklyn’s statue of the Golden Bridge.
Scholars superimposed on the Statue of Liberty
The West Gate Arch of Highway 66 is superimposed on Manhattan’s main avenue. In the Manhattan area of New York, there are several numbered “Avenues” that intersect with streets with smaller numbers. Aired on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #45.7 (2022). I thought it would be a fun show.
The characters are really cute in everything
We’re used to thinking that anything involving Stallone would be a comedy these days, but Tulsa King actually has a lot of humor. But Taylor Sheridan is not going to create a simple parody of the history of the mafia and use Stallone as a joke and highlight. The show has promising depth, despite its light premise of an ex-gangster with lots of money forced to start over in a new town after a long prison sentence. Comedy ensues when a New York gangster finds himself in Tulsa to establish his sphere of influence using his “old-fashioned” methods.
Stallone gives an excellent performance
While there’s nothing unusual about rooting for a “bad” guy as the main character, his directness and old-fashioned common sense values appeal to those of us looking for something refreshing amid today’s social nonsense. The irony of this message is that it takes a thug who bows to no one to break through and expose the superficial social hypocrisy. It’s the same formula that made Yellowstone so successful, and Sheridan knows it’s what many of us want. Before he became a caricature of his later roles, which led to the downfall of the Rocky and Rambo franchises, his acting and screen presence created these iconic roles.
Overall, this is a very interesting series that I’m looking forward to, and one that will be a great addition to the Paramount+ portfolio
It’s nice to see him back on screen in a role that seems perfect for him, and to use some of that brash personality to add depth to his character and the show, rather than undermine it.
