The film begins with superb cinematography
The story is unique, it brings mythology to the moral theme of human greed. The story is based on a spooky Indian mythology/horror folktale about a demon loaded with gold but deprived of food. he managed to revive the demon by building a temple inside an isolated creepy castle. Because of this, the family was ostracized. The castle is huge, with big gates and walls like a fortress, and only the old father lives in the castle.
The wife is also interested, a gold coin kept near the demon idol
The wife/mistress visits the castle every day to give her old husband physical work, and while he is giving her physical work, she asks him to hurry, to which the old man jokingly replies. The family home is within walking distance of the castle where the wife and two children live, as well as the great king. the old husband’s grandmother, who is cursed to live forever after being bitten by a demon, and must regularly feed the old bug while he sleeps or he might resort to cannibalism. The house is a striking image on top of a hill, reminding viewers of rural isolation as the family is alone after being ostracized. There is something very trance-like about this film, especially the timing of the locations.
tension and fear
Constant rain and vivid, well-shot local landscapes are characters in themselves. Dark, claustrophobic, with a palpable atmosphere. Kudos to the cinematographer and director, they did a fantastic job creating a timeless and palpable feel. The director also did a great job of building a concrete, mesmerizing story without having to sacrifice stimulation. If you notice the castle at the beginning fifteen years later, you will see all the details.
Outstanding performances by Soham Shah and kids
Attention is paid to local ethnic details, period, costumes and architecture. The subject of greed and desire is handled very well. The subject of the subjugation of women’s hours is discussed but not investigated. Kudos to the director for a fantastic ending that focuses more on a real horror movie demon’s backstory.
